Differences in Spyware
The difference between spyware can be summed up in a few words. Trojans are usually keyloggers and applications that are hidden on your computer that is literally recording screenshots of your computer or all your keystroke. Creators and users of Trojans are attempting to discover you private financial information so that they can either steal your identity or gain access to your finances. They may also be used to delete the contents of your hard drive. Zombies are hidden applications that wait for the word from the creator or invader and it begins an all out attack on a computer or network. These attacks look like they are coming from you and are distributed from multiple machines either inside your network and outside it. This way an attacker has no trace back to himself. Adware components are a pain because they spy on what you websites you go to so that they can report them back to the company that installed they adware. They report your shopping preferences and tell the company how to target you. Some adware will cause those annoying pop ups that you receive. Use Lavasoft's ad-aware or Spybot search and destroy to remove these problems.
